Colectica at IBUC 2026 in Trondheim, Norway
Colectica will join the International Blaise Users Conference in Trondheim, Norway, September 21–25, 2026. We will give a workshop on Blaise Colectica Questionnaires and present how survey metadata can connect questionnaire design, data collection, and published documentation.
We look forward to exchanging ideas with survey teams at IBUC 2026 and discussing practical ways to make the information in their Blaise instruments easier to find, understand, and reuse.
Monday, September 21: Blaise Colectica Questionnaires workshop
Our “Blaise Colectica Questionnaires” workshop will introduce the application, its connection to Colectica Repository, and the benefits of using the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) Lifecycle standard for survey design.
The workshop will explore how questions and routing are represented as reusable metadata, and how that design can be used to generate Blaise 5 source code. Connecting the questionnaire to a repository lets teams share questions and sections, keep a version history, and carry multilingual text into both the instrument and its documentation.
Tuesday, September 22: From instrument to documentation and discovery
Jeremy Iverson will present “What the Instrument Already Knows: Surfacing Blaise Metadata for Documentation and Discovery.”
The presentation will follow a workflow in which shared, versioned DDI Lifecycle metadata supports questionnaire design in Colectica, Blaise 5 instrument generation, and publication through Colectica Repository and Portal. Keeping these activities connected helps preserve the relationship between what was asked and the documentation researchers later use.
A variable can link back to its source question, the response options, the question text in each language, and the routing context in which it appeared. Repository reuse and version history preserve these connections as questionnaires change. Colectica Portal makes the metadata available through variable-level search across studies, displays questions in context, and provides concordance views for comparing variables that have been linked through shared concepts.
The talk will also address instruments already written in Blaise. Colectica’s source-code importer and the Blaise Colectica DDI Connector bring existing instruments into the same metadata environment.
