Intermittent Abnormal Behavior when Creating Items or Changing Views

Problem Description

On an infrequent and unpredictable basis, versions of Colectica Express and Colectica Designer prior to 3.0.1832 may show the following symptoms when creating new items or navigating through elements.

• Items disappear from lists (e.g., previously created categories may disappear).
• Attempts to navigate to different item types do not work.

Immediate Workaround

If you are currently experiencing this problem, be assured that no data loss has taken place. Simply exit Colectica. Your data, even though not currently visible, will be saved.

Cause

This problem is caused by a bug in the .NET framework. Technical details describing the bug and its causes can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2461678.

Fix

Algenta recommends two actions to eliminate this problem.

1. Download and install Hotfix KB2461678 for the .NET Framework from Microsoft at http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/Downloads/DownloadDetails.aspx?DownloadID=33315

2. Download and install the latest version of Colectica Express or Colectica Designer.

The hotfix from Microsoft eliminates the bug in the .NET Framework.

Versions of Colectica after 3.0.1832 include refactored code that reduces the probability of the bug occurring in cases where the hotfix has not been installed.
